Squadron Scramble 10th September 2010

The day started off as very murky, with a cloudy but dry forcast. By the time we had the pilot brief, the sun was beginning to burn off the low cloud. This continued throughout the morning, until we ended up with a gloriously warm day. The 12mph wind was, unfortunately coming from behind the pilot line.

We arranged that each pilot would fly four flights. The combat got off to a careful start, but as soon as pilots got the hang of recognising their own team member's a/c, and the opponent's a/c, full battle was joined. Dan Dempster was fully enjoying himself, flying the famous Hawker Hilson in and out of the trees with the other brave (or stupid!) pilots. Dave Dempster managed to crash two Spitfires while chasing the boy at low level, and Andy landed in a tree! Finally, it wasn't even close, with Vale Vipers building up a substantial and well-deserved lead. As usual, each team member was awarde with a trophy.

None of that mattered. What was important that we all had loadsa fun on what was a relaxed event. Well done everyone, especially Garry Bugden who officiated.

Sorry.... I couldn't resist....
No, it's not a new type of combat model, it's Dan preparing for a photo opportunity
with "Ed The Eagle".

Dan readies the Hawker Hilson, while Lenny and Steve prep the proper Hurricane.

Dave Cowley sorting a problem while Andy and Alan look on.

Scramble! Looks like Mothercluckers in the rear, with Vale Vipers in the foreground.

A very chuffed Dan Workman
with his streamer collection....
