ACES UK - TEAM COMBAT

STARTING OUT

PHILOSOPHY
There's not much else in terms of flying RC models that can give you as much excitement and satisfaction as RC Aircombat. You're pitting you and your machine against other pilots and their machines, the elements, the ground, and don't forget the biggest factor - Lady Luck - sometimes with you, sometimes not. Each new flight is a trip into the unknown - be astounded as your flying limitations diminish, and your inner horizons and personal expectations expand, as you take that leap of faith across the dark seething chasm of fear.

You DO NOT have to be a superb or experienced aerobatic pilot to take part and do OK. We have taught people, young and old, to fly with Aircombat models, and once you've flown aircombat sorties, you can fly anything. You won't become an ACE when you begin, but you will endure. You WILL experience the thrill, adrenaline rush and feeling of accomplishment and self-fullfillment that you get when mixing it in a dogfight. The comraderie and friendliness felt by you and your fellow pilots is not found in any other arm of RC sport. You will need dedication, tenacity and a thick skin. Oh, I nearly forgot, you DO need to be a little crazy.....So then welcome to the family. Sadly, a very few RC pilots are unsuited to the kaleidoscope of emotions in the Aircombat world. Yes it's true. But you'll never know until you try........

It's what the fullsize aircraft were built for. RC Aircombat isn't about flying a museum-quality Spitfire around the club field in perfect conditions on a Sunday afternoon. In Aircombat there are no points for rivets, or a well-executed humpty-bump - the thing has to fly, and fly well. Aircombat machines are simply built and possess a kick-arse flight envelope, and so are built to be as competitive as the pilot (usually better). You don't get much more competitive than the Battle Of Britain! Conversely, they're not made from a bit of B&Q drainpipe gaffered onto a bathroom tile. Wait....Please come back - I know I mentioned the "C" word (c-o-m-p-e-t-i-t-i-o-n) back there, but you don't have to be a Pot Hunter to enjoy yourself and have fun (I know I don't - haven't won a bloody thing!). Remember, that's what it's all about - HAVING FUN.

If you've read the above, you'll now understand, in theory, at least, the difference between the two types of Radio Control flying - Aircombat and the Rest.

NEXT STEP
If you're still keen, you can to talk to someone. Thay will give you a quick overview on what it's all about. After that, arrange to visit a meeting. That way you'll see first hand what happens, and you can ask all the questions that you like. Please use the contacts page for Email addresses.
